Sonko defends his remarks as DPP orders investigation

Nairobi Senator, Michael Mbuvi (Sonko) yesterday defended his remarks during the burial ceremony of the late Wavinya Ndeti’s husband.

According to the Nairobi senator yesterday, he is not guilty of any remarks and owes no apology to anyone. Sonko added that he never said that “he was third in command constitutionally”.

The woes when the Nairobi Senator said that he had been sent with him the president’s speech to the mourners and since the president was away with his deputy in other mission, he was the acting at the moment.

The Director of Public Prosecutions, Keriako Tobiko, ordered the Police to immediately interrogate him after he declared himself the acting President of Kenya at the function.

In a post on his Twitter page this evening, the senator blamed the opposition, whom he argued had pressurised the DPP to carry out the probe.

“I hereby clarify that my utterances were altered in the edited clip to depict my social, political and influence based position as challenging presidency.

“I uphold my sworn oath to respect the Presidency and urge my fellow political leaders, regardless of either divide, to respect the same,” he wrote

“Based on the unreleased footage, it is evident that the allegations were drawn to delineate my character and tarnish my name based on my political inclination,” he added.
