Ex-Nairobi County Governor Mike Sonko has been freed by a Kiambu court. This was in a matter relating to the assault of 9 people and forceful entry to private property in Nairobi’s Buruburu phase 4.
In 2021, he had been charged with 10 counts of assault, with 9 men incurring bodily harm and forcefully entering the property of Landmark International Limited.
Senior Principal Magistrate Peter Ooko on Monday, March 3, 2023, freed Sonko after the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) informed the court that the 10 complainants in the case sought to drop the case against the former governor.
The Magistrate also ordered the bond of Ksh 300,000 Sonko had deposited in court be refunded back to him.
Sonko’s latest triumph comes after he and 16 others were acquitted in a case relating to the alleged misappropriation of funds amounting to Ksh 357 million belonging to the Nairobi county government.
Milimani Magistrate Eunice Nyutu acquitted them saying no evidence has been adduced by the prosecution to show they conspired to embezzle the said funds.
“After carefully considering the testimony of six witnesses, the evidence adduced is inadequate to sustain the charges levelled against the accused persons,” Nyutu ruled.
