South Africa’s African National Congress party, leads in the latest tally with 57% of the votes followed by leading opposition party Democratic Alliance at 27 while Julius Malema’s Economic Freedom Fighters is at 10%.
High levels of unemployment is an issue raised by the youth in South Africa, and some 6 million youth failed to register to vote.
ANC has had a significant drop in support in election votes having garnered 64% of support in the 2014 election, however, the challenges of corruption, inequality in terms of land and economic growth and state of government-owned enterprises remain issues which if ANC wins, President Ramaphosa must address. Full results of the election are to be released on Saturday.
