South Sudan Peace Talks Gain Momentum

As the South Sudan mediation efforts continue in Nairobi to foster peace between the Government and the Hold-out groups, Vice President of Gender and Youth Cluster Hon. Rebecca Nyandeng Garang made a significant appearance to show her support and solidarity for the ongoing Nairobi peace process.

She was warmly welcomed by Ambassador Josephat Maikara, Director of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region.

Speaking on behalf of Dr. Korir Singoei, Ambassador Maikara, the Principal Secretary for Foreign Affairs, asserted that the peace of South Sudan would enhance the overall prosperity and well-being of the neighbouring nations.

In her statement, Vice President Nyandeng expressed her gratitude to President Salva Kiir Mayardit for initiating these crucial discussions with a strong commitment to preventing the country from descending back into crisis.

Additionally, she also extended her appreciation to President William Ruto, for his involvement in the peace process.

The Vice President urged all parties involved in the mediation to set aside their political differences and prioritize reconciliation for the collective benefit of South Sudan, emphasizing the importance of unity in a country that should not be divided.

She also acknowledged the efforts of Lt. Gen. (Rtd.) Lazarus Sumbeiywo in mediating the talks, in facilitating dialogue and understanding among the parties.

The mediation in Nairobi continues as a key stakeholder’s work towards resolving differences and paving the way for a bright, prosperous and more peaceful future for the people of South Sudan.
