Standoff between Kenya 7s senior layers & KRU unlikely to end soon

The Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) has announced that there will be no increase in salaries for the 2019/2020 season. The announcement means that the standoff between the Kenya sevens senior players and the Rugby governing body will continue.

Senior players opted out of the team just before the start of the 2018/2019season, after KRU drastically reduced their salaries. This severely affected national team Shujaa’s  performance. The team narrowly survived the chop in the last leg in Paris, France.  Shujaa finished 13th with 37 points, 2 places above the relegation zone.

Meanwhile, KRU vice chairman, Thomas Opiyo has insisted that the technical bench will remain intact until further notice. Reports had been circulating that head coach Paul Murunga had been replaced by his assistant Kevin Wambua.
