Starlets skipper hopeful fans will appreciate their effort, support them

After dissapointing African Women competion where Kenya national women team finished lat with no point in their group, the Starlets arrived back yesterday.

The Harambee Starlets captain Ann Aluoch, however, hopes fans will appreciate the distance her team went in the Africa Women’s Cup of Nations, where they moved past the qualifiers to make it to the finals in Cameroon.

The Starlets were eliminated in the group stage after losses to Ghana, Mali and Nigeria, but Aluoch says that they did their best.

“It was a tough contest in Cameroon, but seeing that we were playing there for the first time ever, I think we did well,” said Aluoch.

“We shall keep working hard and we hope that our fans appreciate the effort that we are making.”

Aluoch also thanked Football Kenya Federation for making it easy for them to compete internationally, by providing the needed support.

“We have a new team in office, which has straightened things and made us comfortably play outside the country by providing all the things we needed,” said Aluoch.

The Starlets were beaten 3-1 by Ghana on opening day before losing by a similar scoreline to Mali on the second match day.

The later fell 4-0 to Nigeria in the final group match, played on Saturday 26 November.

The Kenyan side was playing in the finals for the first time in the tournament’s three-decade history.
