Police in Gucha south have been allowed to detain St. Josephs Nyabigena Boys high school prefect, for five more days to allow them complete investigations over the death of a form three student in the school yesterday.
The suspect, Isaiah Benard Mirinya, was arraigned at Ogembo court, before Resident Magistrate Gloria Barasah, but could not take a plea after police requested for five more days to complete investigations.
Through an affidavit sworn by the investigating officer, CPL Leveren Ouya, the police said that the accused Isaiah Benard Mirinya is suspected to have participated in one way or another in the murder of Kevin Gesaini Omwando.
The police said that in order to complete investigations, they required five more days to enable a postmortem, mental assessment, statement recording and more evidence to be gathered.
The magistrate granted the application and directed that Mirinya be remanded at Nyamarambe police station.
The Magistrate set on March 5 as mention when she will issue further orders over the matter.
Initial report made to the police by the school administration had indicated that the deceased collapsed Tuesday morning and was rushed to Tabaka Mission hospital where he was pronounced death.
However, after police and CID officers camped in the school and interrogated students, it was revealed that the deceased had been hit by the prefect before he collapsed and later died and consequently the suspect was apprehended last evening.
The body of the 16-year-old student is lying at the hospital’s mortuary awaiting an autopsy.
