Angry students of Bokoli Boys high school chased away the Bungoma fire engine after they delayed to respond to a fire on Saturday.
The over 130 learners went on rampage after the extinguisher arrived two hours after the fire had razed the dormitory.
No one was hurt in the incident. Bungoma East DCI boss Paul Mumo said they have started intensive investigation over the fire whose cause is yet to be established.
Principal Conrad Wanjala said that the fire, which is estimated to have cost the school Sh5 million, started at around 7.30 pm.
“The students were at the entertainment hall. A security guard called with information that a section of the dorm was on fire,” he said.
Students, teachers, subordinate staff and neighbors tried to put off the fire using sand, water and twigs.
