Sudan President Omar AL- Bashir steps down after months of protests

Sudan President Omar al-Bashir has allegedly stepped down after months of street protests against his leadership. According to several international news outlets, Bashir has stepped down, with reports indicating that a transitional council led by lieutenant. Gen. Ahmed Awad ibn auf will be in charge.

Bashir, who is being sought by international prosecutors for alleged war crimes in the country’s western Darfur region, and has been in power for 30 years, had earlier refused to step down pointing out that his opponents needed to seek power through the ballot box. If the allegations are to go by, then this becomes the fifth military coup in Sudan.
