Suspect in Murder of Narok Advocate Arraigned, Plea Set for July 28

A man accused of fatally shooting a prominent advocate in Narok town has been arraigned before the Narok Law Courts following the approval of murder charges by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

The suspect, Paul Kanyinke Sena, appeared before Hon. Phylis Shinyanda, the Deputy Registrar at the Narok Law Courts, for directions in the case.

“Paul Kanyinke Sena was presented before the Narok Law Courts Deputy Registrar, Hon. Phylis Shinyanda. The court directed that the accused be taken for a mental assessment and be presented for plea on the 28th July 2025,” stated the ODPP.

Sena is accused of the murder of Advocate Mandela Nabaala Leyian, a respected member of the High Court of Kenya Bar, in the early hours of Saturday, July 12, 2025.

According to preliminary reports, the fatal incident occurred at close range after an altercation between the two men at an entertainment venue in Narok town.

The confrontation is said to have stemmed from a dispute involving the blocking of a motor vehicle.

“Advocate Leyian was allegedly shot at close range following a disagreement with Paul Kanyinke Sena over the blocking of the latter’s motor vehicle in an entertainment establishment within Narok town,” noted the ODPP.

According to the DPP, the court ordered that the accused undergo a mental assessment before taking plea.

He is scheduled to be presented again in court on July 28, 2025, for  plea taking.
