The rising number of arson attacks in secondary schools has stunned the country with many theories attempting to explain the cause of the wave of fires.
Kenyans from various quarters have tried to roll their minds around the crisis that has so far affected over 70 schools with little being done to prevent the spread.
Regulations put across by Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i have been viewed as the main cause of schools going up in flames. His style of leadership has seemingly rubbed many the wrong way including head teachers who have blamed him for the student unrests.
The CS has been making impromptu visits to schools busting irresponsible school heads a number of whom have been reprimanded in public.
The Kenya National Union of Teachers Secretary General, Wilson Sossion, had earlier noted that students were protesting against the long second terms that would keep them in school for an extended period.
“The burning of schools is a reaction from students all over the country and ought to be addressed as a matter of urgency,” Sossion said.
