Majority of people in our country population rely greatly on white collar jobs such as engineering, doctor, accountant just to mention but a few, for a living and daily prestige to justify their academic credentials. Though at closer look, it is contrary to everyone expectations as jobs supply tends not to get across everyone in the country. This is following the high margin of unemployment that the country has had to get used to. However few youths from the Nairobi Railway Museum Art Gallery, have taken the lead to beat the odds by using their talents as a source of income, they are using art to earn a living at the same time expressing themselves.
The environs of Nairobi Railway Museum Gallery is a clear picture of the conducive environment available to young talented artists with amazing drawing skills, portrayed in their multiple drawings. What’s even more amazing is that most of them study different courses at colleges or universities but to them art is not only source of income but also a platform to express themselves.
Tony Mello who is the owner the art gallery has employed more than 30 youths and instilled in them the self-employment mentality. He argues that the modern crop of youths need to rely on themselves to create wealth through their talents.
Kenya’s art and culture is extremely unique and is represented through its people, traditions, customs, society, music and dance. And the country has tried to preserve it through education and galleries.
