TAX PAYERS TO SUPERVISE ROAD PROJECTS

In a surprise twist of events, Nyamira county tax payers will  closely monitor implementation of road projects in  wards to get value for their money.

Governor Amos Nyaribo disclosed during a tour  of  Bokeira and Esise wards that  the projects on 15 km of roads in the county’s 20 wards will see a a total of  Ksh. 160 million spent.

Nyaribo challenged the residents to guard against application of unsuitable murram and theft of diesel from machines doing the road works.

National government’s  Mechanical Trust Fund had provided the money and will undertake  the projects  whose phase one  was on at an estimated  Ksh. 60million while Ksh. 100 million  had  been earmarked for  the second phase.

The governor’s advisory comes amid protests  usually staged by a cross-section of tax payers whenever some contractors offered shoddy  workmanship on roads.

Due to runaway corruption, allocated project money was sometimes  reduced leading  to use of sub standard materials and inadequate fuel after it was siphoned from the  construction machinery.

According to Nyaribo, taxpayers should report to the authorities crooks engaged in the malpractices for prompt action.
