AU Commission Convenes the 16th Ordinary Session of STCDS

The African Union (AU) Commission is set to convene the 16th Ordinary Session of the Specialized Technical Committee on Defense, Safety, and Security (STCDSS) today, June 5th, at the Nelson Mandela Hall in the New Conference Building, AU Headquarters, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

This gathering provides Member States with a platform to collaborate, exchange insights, and strengthen collective efforts in tackling emerging security challenges across the continent.

“This year’s meeting will serve as a platform for Member States to collaborate, share insights, and reinforce collective efforts in addressing emerging security challenges on the continent,” stated the Commission.

“It also serves as a platform for the Commission to provide progress updates on implementation of decisions of the STCDSS and other policy organs and for priorities related to peace and security on the continent for continuous guidance by Member States. It underscores the AU’s commitment to enhancing peace, security, and stability in Africa,” the Commission added.

Additionally, the commission will offer updates on the progress of implementing decisions made by the STCDSS and other policy organs, focusing on priorities related to peace and security in Africa, guided continuously by Member States.

Preceding the session, is the 19th Ordinary Meeting of the African Chiefs of Defence Staff and Heads of Safety and Security Services (ACDS/HSS) on June 4th, 2024, followed by the preparatory gathering of Experts for the 16th Ordinary Session of STCDSS on June 3rd, 2024.

The event will be attended by African Ministers of Defense, Internal Affairs, and Heads of National Institutions responsible for Safety and Security, as well as High Official Representatives from AU Member States, Regional Economic Communities, and Regional Mechanisms
