The word ‘sponsor’ is now stinking in kenya

An extra catch in a relationship has been very common  among the youths. A single man or woman’s sim card may be holding more than twenty contacts of girls or boys (fisi – fisilets  type)  and just like prescription each has his or her own illness to cure.

To avoid embarrassment, such people have been nicknamed sponsors.  The dictionary outlines sponsor as a person who extends his or her gratitude in support of something,  mostly projects. This support can be in form of cash, materials or pieces of equipment.

Women have been on the watch due to the fact that majority of them are materialistic. It is from them that the name ‘Sponsor’ began being used in negative perspective. As it stands now, that word has corrupted meaning. You may not be able to understand what a city girl will actually be implying when she says, natafuta sponsor.

By the virtue that, it is from them, I am not in any way accusing them of leading in corrupting the name. But the truth be told, even though it is painful than wound.

For them, a sponsor is that person who is in for their support by a way of financing for her needs. Some of them could be old grannies, grandpas, wealthy men and or women or even Boda Boda operators. As long as you have something they need, you qualify as a sponsor.

It is good to note, at this time, that even lesbians are also attached to sponsors. You may find it funny, yes, but they also need to appeal to their ‘girlfriends and boyfriends’ to be.

When you stand in front of people and utter the word ‘sponsor’ you will be shocked by the looks that faces of different people take. Sponsor name is now stinking,

Though we have no option than to accept, but it would be wise if we, at this point re-think on its usage, or rather find another way to address the matter of real sponsorship deal. Otherwise, you may get embarrassed when you tell your dad that ‘bado natafuta sponsor’ who may happen to think as you do now, yet you meant a business sponsor.

Whichever way, this word has lost meaning and now ‘sponsor’ name is stinking more than sewers tools.
