Three people have been charged in Milimani Anti-Corruption Court for allegedly stealing 1,511 bags of condemned powder milk, the property of the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA).

The court was informed that on the 3rd of May, 2023, at Sambot Ship’s Contractors in Mombasa County, three individuals, namely Florance Wanjiku Muiruri, Moses Boyi Odhiambo, and Daniel Ngugi, along with others, reportedly stole 1,511 bags, each containing 25 kg of condemned milk, which belonged to the Kenya Revenue Authority.

According to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, they were also charged with an offence of interfering with goods subjected to customs control, contrary to Section 203(f) of the East African Community Customs Management Act, 2004.

“The accused persons are alleged to have interfered with 1,511 bags each containing 25 kg of condemned powdered milk, which were subject to customs control by having seized for distraction without the authority of the commissioner Customs and Border Control,” Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions stated on X.

“They pleaded not guilty to all charges before Chief Magistrate Dr. Victor Wakhumile and were released with a bond of Ksh.200, 000 and an alternative cash bail of Ksh.100, 000,” the ODPP added.

Senior Principal Prosecution Counsel Duncan Ondimu, OGW, stated to the court that the accused individuals have been provided with documentary evidence and witness statements by the prosecution.

Dr. Wakhumile scheduled the matter to be brought up again on 15th July 2024 for further instructions.
