Three people died and 14 others were seriously injured when a trailer crashed into a matatu in Kibereke, Kandara constituency, on Monday.
A witness said the driver of the trailer ferrying timber lost control.
“I suspect the lorry had faulty brakes. Both the drivers were speeding. I heard a loud bang and I went to help the passengers,” he said.
Both the drivers died on the spot, while one passenger succumbed to injuries at Thika Level 5 Hospital.
“Blood was spilled all over the road. We tried as much as we could to save the passengers. The sad thing is the matatu driver passed on as his wife and mother watched,” another witness said.
The matatu driver’s wife reportedly fainted and was taken to Thika Level 5 Hospital.
