Three suspected robbers killed, AK 47 rifle recovered in Buru Buru

Three armed robbers were on Friday morning shot dead in Tena area, Nairobi. Buru Buru DCI Jeremiah Ikiao said the suspects were spotted in a silver Toyota Axio by officers from Kayole police station, who began to pursue them.

Ikiao said the officers alerted their colleagues who joined them to track the suspects.

“After pursuing them for 200 meters, a shootout ensued and three of the male occupants were shot dead on the spot,” Ikiao said. The police boss said one AK 47 rifle, a Tokalev pistol, a magazine, three bullets and motor vehicle number plates (KBY 087L) were recovered during the 3 am operation.

Also recovered were several vehicle ignition keys, seven motor vehicle switches and four mobile phones. But he noted that one of the suspects, armed with another AK 47, rifle escaped on foot. Ikiao said the bullets and rifle’s magazine will be taken for ballistic examination as investigations were launched.

“The gang are believed to be behind motor vehicle thefts and robberies within the city and its environs,” he said.

The bodies have been taken to the City Mortuary for identification and autopsy. This comes after four suspected thugs were shot dead in two separate incidents in Nairobi. Two were gunned down in Kibera after members of the public informed police that they had been stealing from pedestrians.

The second incident involved a gang of three that had waylaid a couple on Woodvale road off Ngong Road.
