Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Kenya have apprehended three suspects linked to the brutal attack and murder of Kilifi County IEBC official, Ms. Aisha Abubakar, on January 5, 2025.
The suspects, identified as Isa Omari, Brian Shikuku Mudari, and Bryan Templer Oyare, were captured in separate but meticulously coordinated operations across the coastal region after a seven-day intensive manhunt.
The harrowing incident unfolded in the early hours of January 5, when an unidentified number of intruders forced their way into Ms. Abubakar’s home by cutting through the kitchen window grills.
“Isa Omari, Brian Shikuku Mudari and Bryan Templer Oyare were flushed from their hideouts in separate but coordinated operations within the coastal region, following 7 days of rigorous manhunt for perpetrators of the 3am daring robbery,” stated the DCI.
Armed with crude weapons, the assailants violently subdued Ms. Abubakar’s son before mercilessly stabbing her multiple times, ignoring her desperate pleas for mercy.
The attackers fled the scene with several valuables, including two Samsung phones, an iPad, a 65″ TV set, a sound system, and ATM cards with coerced PINs.
“As she bled her life out, the cold-blooded attackers made away with a number of valuables including two samsung phones, an ipad, 65” TV set, sound system, and ATM cards whose PINs they had demanded,” the detectives explained.
Among the recovered items were one of the stolen phones belonging to Ms. Abubakar’s son and other critical exhibits crucial to the case.
Despite the valiant efforts of Good Samaritans who rushed Ms. Abubakar to Premier Hospital in Nyali, she was tragically declared dead on arrival.
The case was taken over by DCI Kisauni, with additional support from the Operation Support Unit (OSU) and the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau.
Through meticulous forensic analysis, investigators were able to trace and apprehend the suspects.
The suspects are currently in custody as further inquiries continue.
