Tottenham Hotspur Football Club, led by manager Ange Postecoglou, secured a 1-0 victory over Manchester United in the 2025 UEFA Europa League Final. This marks a significant time in history as it is their first European title since 1984 and ending a 17-year trophy drought.
The match took place on Wednesday, May 21, 2025 at the San Mamés Stadium in Bilbao, Spain at 10:00pm East African Time(EAT).
“I believed in our team that we would get the job done. I am so proud of every single player, every single staff. It’s for the fans, it’s for us, we just need to enjoy now,” said Brennan Johnson, the sole scorer of the match.
Tottenham scored the winning goal in the 42nd minute. Pedro Porro ran quickly down the right side of the field and passed the ball into the middle of the box. Brennan Johnson was ready and kicked the ball into the net.
The Manchester United goalkeeper tried to save it but couldn’t reach the ball. The crowd went wild as Spurs took the lead. After the goal, Tottenham worked hard to keep control of the game. They defended well and didn’t let the other team score. That goal was enough to win the match and the Europa League trophy.
“I stayed here because I wanted to do something special. Today we did something special,” said Son Heung-min, playing as a forward for Tottenham.
Tottenham’s triumph marked the ending of a determined Europa League campaign, providing a morale boost after a challenging domestic season where they finished 17th in the Premier League. The victory also secured them a spot in the next season’s UEFA Champions League.
