Trafficker Arrested, Cannabis Worth Sh1.5 Million Seized in Malindi

In a meticulously planned operation, Anti-Narcotics Officers from Malindi Police Station successfully apprehended Chrispinus Onyango Barasa, 35, and seized cannabis valued at approximately Sh1.5 million.

The operation, driven by intelligence reports, marks a significant blow to the illegal drug trade in the region.

The raid took place in the Kijiwe Tanga area of Malindi Sub-County, where detectives, following a trail of tyre marks, were led to a walled compound. Inside the compound, officers discovered a white Toyota Mark X with registration number KDP 137N.

Upon their arrival, the occupants of the vehicle scattered, but Barasa, the driver, was swiftly apprehended.

“In the operation that unfolded in Kijiwe Tanga area of Malindi Sub-County, detectives expertly followed a trail of tyre marks that led them directly to a walled compound. Upon entering, they encountered the suspect’s vehicle a white Toyota Mark X with registration number KDP 137N alongside its occupants, who swiftly scattered like leaves in the wind at the sight of the officers. However, the driver, Barasa, wasn’t quick enough to evade capture and was promptly arrested,” explained the DCI.

A thorough search of the vehicle revealed large rolls of bhang weighing a total of 50 kilograms.

“Upon searching the vehicle, the officers uncovered large rolls of bhang weighing a total of 50 kg,” stated the DCI.

However, Barasa was taken into custody and escorted to Malindi Police Station, along with the confiscated narcotics.

The authorities have confirmed that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the other individuals who fled the scene.
