Travelers stranded for hours following Sunday’s plane mishap

Hundreds of travelers were delayed at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) for hours following a plane mishap.

The incident occurred on Sunday evening forcing planes to be redirected to other airports and strips.

“Jambo, at 4.55pm today, an aircraft from Somalia made an Emergency Landing at JKIA. It landed on its belly and veered off the Runway,” JKIA tweeted yesterday.

“JKIA runway temporarily closed due aircraft disabled on runway. Departures and landings temporarily on hold. Inconvenience regretted.”

This led to queues and utter confusion Monday morning after flights to regional and international destinations were delayed, some for over 12 hours.

All arriving planes were diverted to Moi International Airport in Mombasa, and other airports as KAA staff battled to clear the plane and reopen the runway.
