Treasury owes Machakos county over 1 Billion shillings says finance minister

Machakos County CEC finance Francis Maliti has accused the Finance ministry led by Ukur Yatani of not being committed to disburse over 1 Billion shillings set for Machakos county.

Maliti who is also the deputy Governor said that development projects have stalled and contractors and suppliers are in limbo over debts owed by the county government.

He further told the media that delay of funds has led to drastic scaling down of services after failing to receive money from the National Treasury for three months.

Machakos County hospitals are facing shortage of medical supplies forcing the service seekers to outsource from the surrounding private entities.

The DG now says the county is relying on insufficient own revenue to sustain it’s operations.

He spoke after reading 2021/2022 budget highlights in the county assembly of Machakos.
