The tribunal set up to probe bribery allegations against the Supreme Court Judge Philip Tunoi resumed its public hearing early this morning after a week’s break.
First witness Geoffrey Kiplagat, who is also the source of the filed affidavit incriminating Tunoi, had claimed that he facilitated the payment of 200 million bribe to the embattled judge.
Sternly Cheruiyot and Cobilo Kiplagat,in a cross-examination by Tunoi’s lawyer Fred Ngatia, claimed that Geoffrey Kiplagat asked for their help to threaten Nairobi governor Evans Kidero and Justice Philip Tunoi for him to get his share which he claimed amounted to Ksh.30 million.
They also told the tribunal that they treated Kiplagat as a whistle blower rather than a criminal.
Tunoi was accused of accepting Ksh 200 million bribe from Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero,an accusation that prompted President Uhuru Kenyatta to appoint a tribunal to investigate the matter.
The proceedings resume tomorrow and its not clear if the media will be allowed in as the tribunal has instructed the aggrieved parties to write to it on whether hearing should be conducted in public.
