Two Arrested For Attempting to Bribe DCI Officers In Exchange For Freedom Of Notorious Car Theft Suspect

In a bold attempt to obstruct justice, two individuals were caught red-handed trying to bribe officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) with a hefty sum of KSh 179,000 to protect a notorious car theft suspect.Eugene Kiprop Kipchirchir, 38, and Hillary Kiplangat Kibet, 40, thought they could buy their way out of trouble by “buttering up” the DCI officers.

However, their plan quickly fell apart when they were apprehended by vigilant officers from DCI Kondele. The two audacious suspects spun a web of lies, claiming to possess crucial information about a well-known fugitive involved in a series of car thefts. Their deceitful tale, however, quickly unraveled when they attempted to grease the officers’ palms to prevent the fugitive from facing justice.

“Eugene Kiprop Kipchirchir, 38, and Hillary Kiplangat Kibet, 40, thought they could pull a fast one on the police, but their plan went up in smoke when they were apprehended by officers from DCI Kondele. These audacious culprits spun a web of lies, claiming to possess crucial information about a well-known fugitive involved in car theft. However, their yarn quickly unravelled when they attempted to grease the officers’ palms with the hefty bribe to keep the fugitive from facing justice,”explained the detectives.

During a subsequent interrogation, the suspects spilled the beans, leading officers to a parking lot at Dondez Restaurant. There, they nabbed the main suspect, Rashid Oyondi Nyanuba, who was hiding inside an Isuzu double cab with the license plate KAW 092Y. The swift operation ensured that the fugitive, who had been evading the law, was finally brought to book.

As a result of their ill-advised scheme, the two suspects are now detained at Kondele Police Station, awaiting their date in court. They will face charges related to bribery and attempting to pervert the course of justice.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has reiterated its commitment to upholding the law with the utmost integrity and impartiality. The DCI emphasizes that cases involving attempts to manipulate the scales of justice through corrupt practices will be dealt with firmly and in accordance with the law. Corruption within the criminal justice system will not be tolerated, and all efforts will be made to ensure that justice prevails.
