Two Arrested in Busia for Trafficking 24kg of Cannabis Sativa

Police officers in Busia County have arrested two individuals suspected of trafficking 24 kilograms of cannabis sativa, following a successful operation targeting the region’s growing narcotics trade.

This comes after, officers from Busia Police Station intercepted a motorcycle bearing registration number KMEY 867L, ridden by 50-year-old Alfred Ouma Mapesa.

During a routine check, police discovered that the suspect was ferrying a suspicious gunny bag which upon inspection was found to contain a large consignment of cannabis sativa.

“The officers intercepted a motorcycle bearing the registration number KMEY 867L, with its rider 50-year-old Alfred Ouma Mapesa. To their surprise, he was transporting a gunny bag that contained 24 kilograms of cannabis sativa,” noted the DCI.

Mapesa, upon being questioned, cooperated with law enforcement and named his accomplice, 41-year-old Frederick Egesa Wafula, as a key player in the drug trafficking operation.

Acting on this lead, police swiftly moved in and arrested Wafula shortly afterward.

“Upon interrogation, Mapesa didn’t hold back, he revealed his accomplice in this illegal trade, 41-year-old Frederick Egesa Wafula. As a result, Wafula was swiftly taken into custody moments later,” added the detectives.

The two suspects are currently in police custody and are undergoing processing ahead of their arraignment in court.
