Two children teargassed in Mathare protests raise death toll to four

Two children teargassed during Wednesday’s Mathare protests over the presidential results have died. This brought to four, the number of those killed during the demo staged by ODM leader Raila Odinga’s supporters.

The children were in a house at Area 10 near Juja road when police fired teargas towards the premises. MSF paramedics rushed them to a hospital where doctors confirmed they died from suffocation.

A man and a youth were shot dead earlier in the afternoon after the police responded to the riots.The march followed interim presidential election results that gave incumbent Uhuru Kenyatta a lead.

One of the men who died in the confrontation was reportedly hit by a stray bullet.The police say they are on high alert over possibilities of the chaos escalating. IEBC is set to declare the winner of the hotly contested presidential poll after tallying results based on Form 34As.

Earlier, the National Super Alliance alleged that the electoral agency’s system was hacked to allow manipulation of results.
