The National Police Service (NPS) has arrested and interdicted two police officers in connection with a shocking incident in which an unarmed civilian was shot in Nairobi.
In a press statement issued from the Office of the Inspector General, the NPS named the officers as Police Constable Klinzy Barasa Masinde (Service No. 119413) and Police Constable Duncan Kiprono (Service No. 117193). The two are currently under investigation by the Homicide Team at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Headquarters.
“The two police officers have now been interdicted and are currently being processed by the homicide team, DCI Headquarters pending further action,” stated NPS.
The victim, identified as Boniface Mwangi Kariuki, is reported to be in stable condition at Kenyatta National Hospital, where he is undergoing treatment following successful surgery.
“The National Police Service deeply regrets this unjustified act and commiserates with the victim and his family,” stated NPS spokesperson.
He further emphasized that the Service is committed to ensuring that justice is served and that such incidents are addressed with the seriousness they deserve.
The incident has sparked renewed calls for accountability and police reform, with human rights groups condemning the use of excessive force and urging swift, transparent investigations.
