UAE Pledges USD 15Million In Support of Kenya Amidst Floods

The United Arab Emirates (UAE)  has pledged USD 15 Million in support of Kenya amidst floods.

The donation is going to be channeled towards alleviating the aftermath of the floods, particularly in assisting those affected.

According to Highness Sheikh Theyab bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of the International Humanitarian Affairs Council in UAE, the donation was made following directives from UAE’s President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

The announcement was made via the UAE Embassy in Nairobi on their official X page.

“The United Arab Emirates allocated USD 15 Million to assist victims of floods and heavy rains witnessed in the Republic of Kenya which led to the death of hundreds and displacement of thousands from their homes, destruction of infrastructure like roads bridges, health facilities, and agricultural lands, with northern parts of Nairobi City including places mostly affected,” read the statement in part.

UAE’s Chairman of the International Humanitarian Affairs Council also affirmed that the UAE obliges to humanitarian calls both at regional and international levels.

“Under the wise leadership of His Highness the president, the United Arab Emirates always stands to oblige to humanitarian calls at both regional and international levels to urgently rescue lives and move humanitarian efforts assisting the weak and the affected regardless of geographical location,” he said.

UAE’s donation comes after the United States announced kshs 130 million in assistance to support the Kenya Red Cross’ initiatives in supporting flood victims.

The announcement was made by the US Ambassador to Kenya, Meg Whitman.

“Today, the U.S. announced KSh130 million in new assistance to support the Kenya Red Cross and its work with communities affected by recent flooding. My heart goes out to all families impacted by the recent devastation,” stated Whitman.
