The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has issued a statement condemning the violent protests, looting, and destruction of property that occurred on Wednesday, June 25, 2025.
The statement, signed by UDA Secretary General Sen. Hassan Omar Hassan and released on June 26, reaffirmed the party’s unwavering support for constitutional rights.
According to the statement, while the Constitution of Kenya protects the right to peaceful assembly and protest, this right does not extend to acts of destruction and incitement to anarchy.
The UDA criticized what it described as a pattern of weaponing human rights rhetoric to justify violent and destructive actions, especially those allegedly driven by elements among Kenya’s youth.
“Never and never again can anyone purport to invoke rights provided for in the Constitution to attain unconstitutional objectives and to provide a veil of cover sanitizing criminality including wantam destruction of property, looting and a vivid affront towards attempting the collapse of state and government and precipitate a climate of anarchy,” read the statement.
The party lamented the damage caused to public infrastructure and private businesses, describing the events of June 25 as “a new low in Kenya’s protest history.”
UDA warned against using youth frustrations to incite chaos, stressing that such manipulation undermines national cohesion and democratic progress.
“The government will assert its absolute duty to protect, to ensure that carnage is never again witnessed under the guise of human rights or by the Gen Z,” the statement read in part.
The party lauded police officers for showing restraint despite physical assaults and threats posed by opportunistic mobs.
In conclusion, the UDA reiterated its support for the rule of law and urged all Kenyans to stand united under a government that prioritizes peace, justice, and national stability.
