UDA To Convene Emergency NEC Meeting On Friday

The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) is set to convene an emergency meeting of its National Executive Committee (NEC) on Friday, following the attempted removal of its Secretary General, Cleophas Malala, on Tuesday.

This decision comes in the wake of a disturbance at the UDA headquarters on Ngong Road, where Malala’s supporters gathered, vocally expressing their support for him.

“I wish to announce that we are going to have an emergency NEC meeting on Friday to resolve the matters that have emerged in the party since yesterday,” noted Governor Mbarire.

“I want to assure our members that as the NEC we shall make sure that we resolve those matters in a fair and best way possible and the party will be back at its feet,” she added.

During the altercation, lawyer Joe Khalende sustained injuries.

UDA Chairperson and Embu Governor Cecily Mbarire has denounced the chaos that occurred at the party headquarters on Wednesday morning, asserting that the party does not condone such actions.

“We do not in any way support what has happened today and the goons that have been brought to the party headquarters to bring chaos,” she stated.

The Chairperson condemned the two incidents, terming them as serious violations of the party constitution and principles.

“UDA Party has properly constituted organs and one cannot come and claim himself or herself as a holder of any position without following the due process. We therefore want to condemn that act on Tuesday with the strongest words possible,” Governor Mbarire said.

On Tuesday, Joe Khalende, alongside a section of UDA members identifying themselves as “founding members,” held a press conference to declare Malala’s ouster, alleging that he had neglected his responsibilities as Secretary General.

Khalende and his group accused Malala of failing to support the inclusive government established by President Ruto to promote national unity.

In response, Malala refuted the claims of his resignation and urged his supporters to disregard the misinformation.
