Former President Uhuru Kenyatta has pledged a personal donation of Ksh 2M to the Kenya Red Cross Society to assist the flood victims.
In a statement on Tuesday, Uhuru said the contribution will strengthen relief initiatives and offer vital assistance to the impacted victims.
He further expressed his deepest sympathies to the families and called for solidarity as a nation in providing support for the victims.
“The relentless rainfall has caused significant damage, displacing families, destroying infrastructure, and claiming precious lives. During this time of profound loss and despair, my thoughts and prayers are with the affected communities as they cope with the aftermath of this natural disaster,” said the former Head of State.
“As a nation, we must stand together in the face of adversity, demonstrating compassion, resilience, and solidarity with one another,” he further added.
The Former Head of state stressed the importance of Kenyans staying alert and careful in the face of flood risks, advising them to avoid crossing flooded areas and prioritize moving to higher grounds to ensure their safety and well-being.
Uhuru also recognized the ongoing challenges in the healthcare sector, urging volunteer medical professionals and healthcare professionals to step up and assist the sick and injured.
He acknowledged the dedication and commitment of all healthcare workers and emphasized the importance of addressing their concerns through constructive dialogue and meaningful engagement.
Uhuru was referring to the ongoing doctors’ industrial action after the Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists, and Dentists Union (KMPDU) and the government failed to reach an agreement, following the government’s refusal to pay medical interns Kshs 206,000 as stipulated in the 2017 CBA and opted for Kshs 70,000 as endorsed by cabinet.
