We all have our favorite pair of jeans, but how many of us have stopped and wondered why they have a weird trio of buttons on the pockets? They may look like they are just there for decoration, but the bronze buttons actually serve an important purpose.
Mostly on your left hand is a small pocket that if you try to reach inside you find yourself struggling to establish right angles for your fingers to penetrate. This pocket has never bothered people to dig down in bid to understand the real purpose the pocket was and is meant to serve.
Dating back in 1800’s, the pocket was specifically designed to hold watches. This was to prevent the cowboys from damaging or losing their watches. For security, they used to put the watches in these small pockets.
Later, cowboys and other people began putting gold nuggets in those small pockets. In 19th century, some jean producing companies began calling them called condom pockets, with others terming it coin pockets.
Since the watch pocket or rather the cowboy pocket was coined in 1800s, the evolution of technology among other things has rendered it useless and some people just see it on the jean without bothering on its purpose.
