Existence of Lake Bogoria has been slowly diminishing following environmental degradation upstreams with major rivers almost drying up; endangering the habitat around the lake.
But with an initiative to conserve the environment by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and other partners, there is the hope of saving the lake from extinction.
The program which is dubbed a small grants program will see the community living around the lake engage in environment-friendly activities in a bid to conserving the lake.
Through the initiative which was launched yesterday in Lake Bogoria, UNDP donated Kshs 60 million to 20 groups from the area to support their projects of self-sustenance and environment conservation.
The community –based initiatives which the program is sponsoring include honey farming, mango farming and support of conservancies in the area.
