Small scale farmers in the county are posed to benefit from a newly introduced fertilizer that will improve maize production providing yields for local consumption and sale.
The fertilizer dubbed ‘Microp’ and manufactured by Yala East Africa company is a product of blending and set aside for planting and top-dressing of maize a stable food for the residents.
During the launch of the product in Kisii town County Member of Executive Committee, in charge of Agriculture,Esman Onsarigo,said it reduced acidity levels in the soil.
Onsarigo observed at a time the area farmers grappled with declining poor maize harvests, amid increased population and land limitation,the fertilizer was expected to boost production enhancing food security.
The commercial manager for the company,Vitalis Wafula explained, compared to other fertilizers already in the market,the product was ,efficient and cost effective.
He said small scale farmers in the country where the fertilizer had been launched have started to enjoy its benefits.
Dr. Enock Monda, one of the suppliers, disclosed for the farmers to give value of their money, the fertilizer quantity and quality was stressed during its transportation and distribution.
