University Students urged to use the road safely and responsibly

University Students have been urged to adhere to basic road safety practices and also to adopt safe road user behaviors in order to control road traffic crash cases in the country.

Speaking during the opening of a Memorial Garden meant to remember three students from the university of Embu who recently lost lives through a road accident, The National Transport and Safety Authority Eastern regional manager Doris Sabaya noted that some road traffic crash cases are preventable if all road users play their roles effectively and responsibly.

She at the same time called on the police, judiciary and insurance companies to expedite all road crash cases before them so that justice is served to the victims of road accidents.

She added that the wheels of justice for the road crashes are sometimes too slow despite the devastation, the loss and the suffering of the bereaved and those injured.

Sabaya called on the police, judiciary and insurance companies to expedite all the road traffic cases before them so that justice can be served to the victims of the vice.

Sibaya said that vulnerable road users including school-going children, boda boda riders and pedestrians are paying the highest prices in the road traffic crashes.

She regretted that the number of deaths as a result of road traffic crashes might keep on increasing if safe road user behaviors are not adopted.

Deputy Vice-Chancellor Prof. Kiplagat Kotut called on the students and the university staff to always be cautious while on the road and also to offer a helping hand when they encounter a road crash victim.
