US embassy evacuated in bomb scare

A “SUSPICIOUS object” abandoned near the site of the new US embassy in Oslo, Norway, sparked a major evacuation this morning, with America braced for a fresh attack after a spate of bombings.

According to The Mirror, Norweigan police said construction workers had been cleared from the area as officers worked to establish whether the object found in a container posed a danger to the public.

A police spokeswoman confirmed a bomb squad was at the scene and 250 people had been evacuated.

The construction site is in the district of Huseby on the western outskirts of the city.

Police later said the object had been “defused” but did not release more details about whether the device was an explosive that had been deliberately planted.

The existing US embassy on Henrik Ibsen’s Gate in central Oslo remained open throughout the operation.

The US is on high alert after locations in New York and New Jersey were targeted by a bomber over the weekend.
