US Pledges Kshs130M to Support Kenya Red Cross

The US Ambassador Meg Whitman has today announced the donation of kshs 130M from the US government to support Kenya Red Cross and their efforts in assisting communities affected by recent floods.

“Today, the U.S. announced KSh130 million in new assistance to support Kenya Red Cross and its work with communities affected by recent flooding,” said Meg Whitman on her X page.

On Thursday, the Ambassador accompanied the Kenya Red Cross Secretary General Dr.Ahmed Idris to visit Mathare.

They toured Mradi, Mathare 4A, where residents were hardest hit by the recent flooding, before visiting one of the evacuation centers set up by Kenya Red Cross, which is currently accommodating 252 families.

Whitman extended her deepest sympathies to all the families affected by the recent tragedy.

“My heart goes out to all families impacted by the recent devastation,” she said.

The Kenya Red Cross has stated that it will enhance its humanitarian assistance to communities facing adverse impacts with the recent funding announced by the Ambassador.

They also extended their gratitude to the people of the United States through the USAID’s Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance and their invaluable assistance in addressing temporary shelter and settlement needs.

“We extend our appreciation to the American people through the USAID’s Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance, who have been providing invaluable support for temporary shelter and settlement needs and WASH NFIs, besides the normal emergency programming,” said the Kenya Red Cross.

The US government’s donation comes a week after the government of the United Arab Emirates supplied Kenya with 80 tonnes of relief supplies to assist Kenyans affected by floods.

Two aircraft loaded with 80 tonnes of relief supplies were dispatched on 2nd May with the second aircraft arriving on Friday, 3rd May.
