Residents of Mali village in Kiganjo, Thika are staring at a crisis of electrocution after two Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) posts collapsed at the beginning of this week.
The dangerously hanging electricity poles and cables in the remote village is not only posing as a looming danger to members of the public but has also resulted in an all-week outage.
Collapsing of the poles have been attributed to the ongoing heavy rains that have wreaked havoc in the village.
Locals said they have been making numerous reports since Tuesday to the lighting company but has done nothing to contain the impending crisis.
Led by Zablon Kamau, residents decried that insecurity has intensified for the one week they have stayed without electricity forcing business people to close their shops earlier than expected.
They said that criminals are taking advantage of the darkness that has engulfed the entire village to terrorize them.
Jane Wanja, a local said that they first knew of the crisis when their power went off a week ago forcing them to seek candles and tin lamps as alternative sources of light.
The power mess, they said, left a trail of destruction with most homes having their electronic appliances damaged.
Her concerns were shared by Bibian Njeri whose house was shaken by the incident and who lamented that KPLC have given them a deaf ear despite making numerous calls to have the matter resolved.
The locals who are hungry for power called on the government to make prompt interventions that will lead to restoration of power and sanity in and outside their homes.
