VOLUNTEER INFORMATION TO END CRIME

Security heads in Laikipia West have urged residents to volunteer in confidence, information to help fight insecurity in the area.

This comes amidst rising cases of cattle rustling, banditry attacks, consumption of illicit brews, among other social ills in the region.

The security heads led by Nyahururu Sub County Deputy County Commissioner, Moses Murwoki, have said a partnership between locals and security agencies would help rid off the area the vices.

The DCC said that a raft of security measures had been put in place to deal with the cattle rustling menace in the area.

He said that among the measures include deployment of rapid response teams, armored personnel carrier vehicles as well as increasing the number of security officers in the region.

Among the banditry prone areas in the region include Kamwenje, Ol Moran, Wangwaci, Sipili among others.

Mr Murwoki however said that the security teams deployed to the areas had intensified operations to flush out armed raiders and seal the Laikipia-Baringo Border line.

He noted that the government had deployed security officers consisting of police, regular and Rapid Response Unit officers.

The DCC who spoke at Karandi trading centre during the coronation of Gituamba location, Chief Jane Muchoi, also warned corrupt chiefs who collude with criminals and illicit brews that they will be sacked.

He said those who will be found ‘protecting’ criminals will be shown the door since they are putting the safety of the people they are supposed to protect at risk.

Mr Murwoki at the same time urged the public to stay vigilant and report any chief they suspect to be helping criminals and brewers, saying that stern actions will be taken against them.

Nyahururu Sub- County Criminal Investigation Officer (CIO) Nahum Muli noted that they were doing everything possible to contain cases of insecurity and other menace.

She urged members of the public to embrace the culture of volunteering information to security agencies.

Ms Muchoi, the newly coronated Gituamba Location chief promised to weed off the area consumption of illicit brews and other criminal activities.
