Wajir government drill boreholes to curb water crisis

The Wajir government has sunk 129 boreholes across the county since devolution started after the March 2013 general election.Residents previously walked hundreds of kilometres in search of water.

Speaking to the Star on Monday, Mohamed Abdi, a resident of Tarbaj constituency, said the boreholes have saved them time and energy.

He said they use the water for economic activities that improve their lives.

“We never imagined in our wildest dreams that one day water could be brought so close. We hail devolution for transforming our lives,” Abdi said.

Resident Ahmed Ali of Wajir South said having water is the best thing that has happened to them.

Water chief officer Abdinoor Hussein said his department is constructing pans in areas with no signs of water or those with high salinity.
