The renowned Quiver Steak House nightclub, situated in Milimani, Nairobi, has succumbed to increasing pressure and has consented to permanently lower the volume of its speakers.
This decision follows complaints from nearby residents who have suffered from sleepless nights due to the excessive noise generated by the establishment, prompting calls for appropriate intervention from local authorities.
In response to public outcry, the club announced that it has made a groundbreaking decision to be the first club to adopt an innovative approach by refraining from playing music.
“Following the current development based on the views of our neighbourhood and in the spirit of unity, environment conservation and the numerous telephone conversations between our wonderful neighbours and our management, we wish to bring the below to the public attention as a groundbreaking decision; we will be the first club to embrace an innovative concept by not playing music,” Quiver said in a statement.
“This unique approach aims to create a vibrant atmosphere where guests can fully enjoy their time without the distraction of loud music, we believe that people can still eat, drink and have fun while engaging in meaningful conversation and connecting with one another. By eliminating loud music, we encourage a more social environment where laughter, chatter, and the clinking of glasses take centre stage,” Quiver added.
The Cabinet Secretary for Environment Hon. Aden Duale commended the decision of Quiver to eliminate excess noise to allow a healthy environment for business.
“Section 4 (1) EMCA (noise pollution and excessive vibrations regulations 2009) states that no person shall make or cause to be made excessive vibrations which annoy, disturb, injure, or endanger the comfort, repose, health or safety of others and the environment,” CS Duale said on X.
He said that Quivers’ management commitment to eliminate excessive noise and vibration is a step in the right direction to ensure a safe and healthy environment to undertake the business.
