West Mugirango MP Stephen Mogaka has urged the President to reconsider a member from his constituency for the high commissioner to Accra Ghana role after his predecessor Vincent Kemosi declined the job.
In a statement issued on 9th April, Mogaka criticized his predecessor for declining the job noting that his actions might jeopardize opportunities for the people of his community and the Gusii community as a whole.
Kemosi wrote to the Committee saying he would not appear for the approval hearing as he has declined the nomination. He cited personal and family issues as the cause.
“I wish to inform you that I will not appear before the said Committee at the time and the venue specified for a formal hearing,”
“This has been occasioned by my personal and compelling family matters which after taking into consideration do not allow me to take up the position as the High Commissioner to Ghana as nominated by President on March 9, 2024.” Stated Kemosi.
His rejection prompted mixed reactions with West Mugirango MP taking the lead to express his disappointment.
“I am deeply concerned regarding the recent decision of Hon. Vincent Kemosi Mogaka, former MP, West Mugirango Constituency and immediate nominee High Commissioner to Accra, Ghana to decline the presidential appointment.”
“I find it troubling that a qualified individual would choose to forego such a significant opportunity as the said position carries immense responsibility and offers a platform to make meaningful contributions towards representing our country in Ghana. While I understand that personal circumstances and reasons for declining the appointment may vary. I cannot help but feel uneasy about the implications of Hon. Kemosi’s decision.” Read the statement in part.
Mogaka disclosed that he extended an apology to the president after Kemosi declined the job, as he had personally asked the president to consider him for the position. Additionally, he revealed he had requested the president to consider an alternative person from his constituency to take up the coveted role.
“I have written a Letter to His Excellency the President and requested him to consider an alternative able person from West Mugirango Constituency to fill that position. Am taking it upon myself to immediately submit several Curriculum vitae to the president for consideration.” Indicated Mogaka.
