WFP signs MOU with county government to address food insecurity

In a bid to mitigate drought in Baringo County ,World Food Programme (WFP) has entered a  Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Baringo County Government to provide sustainable food systems to the locals.
Under the programme,4,500 house holds drawn from 18 wards across the County will benefit from monthly cash transfer of Ksh 5000 that will help them build resilience on food security.
While signing the MOU ,WFP Country Director Annalisa Conte said the initiative worth 2.3 Billion for the next five years  targeting households in 18 wards worst hit by hunger  adding that the project will have achieved when the county will not need them anymore.
She also said that the project will also entail emergency preparedness and response, Social protection also strengthening food supply chains to engage competitively in agricultural markets.
Baringo County Governor Stanley Kiptis said the collaboration will seek to increase access to  affordable nutritious foods by investing in food production, transformation ,consumption and market linkages.
Being a county which is hard hit by drought led to loss of lives and the initiative will look to address food insecurely in the county.
