“Why Export Kenyan Labour When State House Spends Ksh 352 Billion?”- Babu Owino

Embakasi East MP Paul Ongili, popularly known as Babu Owino, has called out President Ruto for borrowing money for recurrent expenditure, which he termed as non-productive debt.

He emphasized that borrowed monies should go to development, which he called productive debt.

“We are in a nation where 352 billion is allocated to State House. Why should we export labour to other countries when the President has 352 billion in State House that he can use to employ over 1.4 million Kenyans?” he asked in an online interview with K24.

The MP further broke down the expenditure as follows.

“Ruto is spending Ksh 1 billion shillings per day in the State House. 29,333,333,333.33 (29 billion) per month can employ 1,466,666 Kenyans, each of them earning Ksh 20,000 monthly,” Owino said.

To this effect, he criticized Ruto’s plans to send Kenyans abroad to work and earn income when he was clearly in a position to employ over 1.4 million Kenyans.

However, the President has remained adamant and told off critics, citing that his trips abroad have bore fruits as he has secured job opportunities. He insisted that the jobs were lucrative it would only be right for Kenyans to get them.

Earlier this month, Ruto affirmed to Mathira residents that his government had secured over 500,000 jobs for Kenyan youth abroad. He claimed this arrangement was good for generating revenue for the country.

He told off Azimio’s leader Raila Odinga hampering the efforts aimed at exporting Kenyan labour so that he could have people attend mass demonstrations.
