Why KPA’s Performance Has Improved

Kenya Ports Authority’s (KPA), Managing Director Captain William Ruto credited partnerships with TradeMark Africa and the private sector for a significant portion of the recent 12% growth in containerized cargo at the Port of Mombasa.

The Managing Director held a meeting with a delegation from the British High Commission, led by Mr. Daniel Wilcox and held talks on the achievements of the Port.

The MD highlighted that improvements in Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) were mainly due to capacity expansions and reduction of ship turnaround times.

He expressed appreciation to TradeMark Africa for their crucial support in addressing challenges both within and outside the port premises.

Capt. Ruto mentioned initiatives such as the expansion of Kipevu Road, supported by TradeMark, and the establishment of access gates 9 and 10 as measures that have contributed to reducing truck turnaround times.

He also stressed ongoing collaborative efforts to enhance the port’s environmental sustainability and energy efficiency.

The authority has played an important role in promoting trade and commerce not only for Kenya but also for neighbouring countries, as an important gateway to imports and exports.

Since then, KPA has undertaken various initiatives to improve port infrastructure, increase efficiency and adapt to the changing global economy.

These efforts include expansion plans, the use of new technologies, and the implementation of process improvements to reduce loading times and improve overall performance and issues related to corruption and governance.
