ODM women political leaders from across Kajiado County matched to the Kajiado Law Courts seeking a court order to stop the party’s move to nominate Hamida Yare Haji on allegations that she is not a registered voter from Kajiado County.
Addressing the members of the press, Emily Lesian, from Sholinke Oloosrkon ward said Junet Mohamed from the ODM Secretariat has used his position in the party to impose one of his relatives to Kajiado County Assembly nomination slot.
“It is unfortunate that we campaigned for the party day and night and delivered several seats to it including that of the governor’s post only for the party leaders like Junet Mohammed to nominate their relatives to the County Assembly,” said Lesian
They said that they could not accept someone from another county to be imposed on them yet they have several women qualified for the nomination in the county.
“A woman from Kajiado is better placed to raise our concerns in the county assembly not a person who doesn’t understand the needs of our community,” said Hamida Ahmed, another ODM leader in Kajiado.
They threatened to leave the party if their concerns were not addressed in the shortest time possible.
They called upon Governor Joseph Ole Lenku and other elected leaders to join hands and condemn the move by Junet Mohamed.
The women urged the governor and other ODM elected leaders to intervene and ensure that the ODM women in Kajiado get their rightful slot.
The women however pledged to work with other communities within the county and maintain peace.
“We will accept if the nomination slot is given to another community as long she is a registered voter from Kajiado regardless of the community one comes from,” Lesian added.
They promised to stop the swearing in of Hamida Yare Haji that is scheduled to take on Wednesday.
Kajiado County Assembly has a total of 41 members. 25 are elected MCAs while 16 are nominated by the various political parties.
