Worship services resumed in Kisii county after the government lifted a lockdown on Nyanza and Western regions due to increased covid19 cases. Some churches,however, did not re-open citing non- compliance with ministry of health protocols on covid19. Those which recommenced adhered to the containment measures but were forced to split sessions in accordance to one third Inter-Faith Committee guidelines on the number of congregants. Churches which abstained said they will re-start after they had met the set coronavirus requires. Bishop Peter Morwabe of Gospel Embassy Chapel church said they could not open owing to increasing statistics on covid19 contrywide that might prompt the government to close the churches again.
The church will continue to embrace virtual technology among other channels to reach the faithful,he added. Catholic father,Thomas Menge from Kisii Parish, lamented over the added workload of ministering to the faithful after splitting worship services from three into five to avoid overcrowding. Jane Nyaega and Gilbert Nyakundi, catholic congregants, expressed joy over resumption of the services but urged their fellow worshipers to obey the ministry of health protocols.
