Coffee farmers drawn from South Rift rejects the regulations

Coffee farmers were drawn from the south rift and who supply their produce to Kipkelion Coffee Mill Cooperative Society have rejected the new coffee regulations.

Speaking at Kipkelion Coffee Mill after holding a meeting, a total of 72 chairmen from coffee cooperative unions from south rift led by Joseph Kosgei, chairman, Kipkelion District Cooperative Union, said the definition of the term association in the new regulations is not clear.

Kosgei said that the Cooperative Society is not recognized as an entity and is likely to kill farmers’ Cooperative Societies due to the introduction of the direct settlement scheme to remit proceeds from coffee sales unlike through cooperative societies.
