This morning, Charles Obaga Kavehere was apprehended by detectives after an unsuccessful attempt to evade them on a bus bound for Nairobi from Moyale.

The 24-year-old was captured after anti-narcotics detectives, supported by the Operations Support Unit, acted on intelligence information and intercepted the bus he was traveling on, belonging to Score Investment Ltd at the Blue Post section of Thika.

Obaga was ejected from the bus and a thorough search led to the discovery of 417 grams of cocaine hidden under the inner soles of his rubber shoes.

The suspect was taken to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) where further screening was conducted.

Investigators determined that in addition to the 417 grams valued at Sh1.8 million, he had ingested additional drugs intending to expel them at his destination.

He is currently in the custody of JKIA-ANU officers pending the egestion of the swallowed sachets and further legal procedures.

Obaga’s arrest comes barely a week after DCI sleuths arrested a woman trafficking over 135 kg of marijuana estimated at Kshs 4 million.

30-year-old Regina Akoth Kungu was arrested at her house in Kwa Musa in Diani, wherein several gunny bags containing the prohibited drug were retrieved by detectives.

The Mombasa anti-narcotics officers also seized Kshs 12,100 believed to be proceeds of her peddling.

She was arraigned at the SRM court in Kwale on 22nd April. She pleaded not guilty and was released on a cash bail of Sh50,000. The case will be mentioned on 30th April 2024.
